System overview
For this purpose-built PBSA development comprising 226 student rooms, we supplied Carrier’s latest natural-refrigerant R-290 heat pump, the 61AQ. Each room is served by a heat interface unit (HIU), ensuring efficient, reliable delivery of hot water throughout the building.
The system provides high-temperature hot water up to 75°C, allowing seamless integration with the existing distribution network and BMS. The use of R-290 delivers an ultra-low GWP solution aligned with the client’s net-zero ambitions, while inverter-driven technology maximises seasonal efficiency and reduces operating costs.
Compact, quiet, and future-ready, the Carrier 61AQ demonstrates how modern natural-refrigerant heat pumps can deliver sustainable, centralised heating for multi-occupancy developments.
